IceMen Insights Podcast #214:
Closing the Pyle File

Next Show: Wed 5/14 (Tentatively)

The off-season is well underway for the IceMen, and “IceMen Insights” is as “off” as ever with another hour-plus of online-exclusive analysis and nonsense! In this week’s episode…

Derick and I discuss the obvious top story of the past couple weeks, Jeff Pyle’s abrupt departure as IceMen Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations. We delve into the off-ice issues that led to the decision, where Pyle will go next, candidates to replace him, and if there’s any credence to the speculation about Josh Beaulieu retiring as a player in order to take over as IceMen coach.

Topics of conversation also include interesting IceMen stats from the 2013-14 season, the ECHL and NHL playoffs, the longest game in ECHL history, Derick’s trip to Wheeling, what’s next for the St. Louis Blues, another Skate Down Memory Lane, and an update on the Birds and the BJs.

In addition, we offer up another installment of “Hockey 101,” aimed at helping fans better understand the nuances and idiosyncracies of hockey. We discuss the history of the “loser point” in the NHL, how the standings have evolved over time, and when shootouts were adopted in order to abolish ties.

Plus: Derick blasts Blackhawks bandwagon jumpers, we reveal the prize winner from our last show, pitchforks and sporks, Tim Horton’s, getting good luck from “Mancrush” Matt Spaeth, changing diapers, Fuddruckers, Derick jokes about in-breeding in Kentucky, Star Wars Day, visiting Bojangles, stunning Brian Patafie news, making a relationship “Big Boy official,” and Ivy makes another cameo!
