IceMen Insights Podcast #101:
An IceMen Podcast? Why Not?

I am incredibly proud and excited to announce that is teaming with Evansville’s “Real Alternative” WYIR (96.9 FM “The Wire”) to offer IceMen fans a new and FREE (and commercial-free too) podcast about IceMen hockey (and perhaps some other stuff too), which will be produced weekly throughout the season.

Every week, Webmaster and Senior Writer Michael “Shocker” Shockley (that would be me) will join WYIR’s Derick “Dirty D” Benigni for 15 to 30 minutes (give or take) of IceMen insights and general hockey discussion. Derick, as many of you might know, is a longtime IceMen fan and volunteer, and a devoted but long-suffering fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was also the radio voice of the IceMen during the 2009-10 season, when WYIR was the team’s first-ever over-the-air broadcast partner.

“IceMen Insights” is part of WYIR’s “Amusement Park,” a new show featuring hockey talk and arena rock, which airs from Noon to 2 or 2:30 PM (CT) every Wednesday on 96.9 FM and The “IceMen Insights” segment will generally air at around 1 PM.

Thanks to WYIR and for the benefit of IceMen fans everywhere, the “IceMen Insights” portion of each week’s program will subsequently (usually sometime Wednesday afternoon or Thursday) be made available for FREE download as an MP3 podcast right here on And going forward, a complete show archive will always be available on our expanded Podcast, Video, Photos & More page.

In this week’s debut edition, Derick and I discuss the IceMen home opener and affiliations, offer up predictions for the season as a whole, speculate on replacing Brian Bicek, and look forward to the upcoming weekend’s games. Plus, we unveil the first edition of a little feature called “Shocker’s Hockey Rock Song of the Week.” Altogether, the episode clocks in at just over a half-hour long. Enjoy!
