The weather is starting to warm up, and “IceMen Insights” is here to cool you off with over 90 minutes of analysis and nonsense…
Our primary topic this week is “Silly Season,” the annual shuffling of teams and affiliations in minor league hockey. The Blues have a new AHL affiliate, and the future of hockey in Peoria is very cloudy. The Trenton Titans have folded, which could result in the IceMen losing a division rival. Some CHL teams might be coming over to the ECHL, and other CHL teams are on the brink of collapse. The ECHL wants to add a team in Indianapolis for 2014-15, but they might not be the only game in town. And a prominent longtime AHL team has been forced to move due to an impasse with its home arena.
This week’s topics also include changes in the IceMen front office, which players we would try to sign from other teams, more outdoor games in the NHL and where an “IceMen Winter Classic” could be played in Evansville, IceMen goalie trivia, the upcoming NHL realignment, predicting the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and updates on the playoffs throughout the minors.
Plus: Here Come the Mummies, an Icicles “strip-athon,” lubricating the voice box, crazy Canadian hockey media, single entendres, a comedic tribute to Iowa, Brian Patafie’s IQ, goalers, Napoleon Dynamite, irrationally emotional fans, Derick’s college education, the Sedin “sisters,” Dan “Hammy-hweese,” coccyx problems, “Ole Splodey Bones,” Mounties, “twice removed” relatives, googly eyes over a redheaded referee, the real reason Derick is excited about his Toronto Maple Leafs making the playoffs, more references to Stephen Rickard’s testicles, and Patafie’s experience with a little blue pill!
